Tsybin MOD3 Concept Art

I love scifi (in case you couldn't guess from the artwork scattered through this site ;-). Growing up I was surrounded by piles of the (late lamented) Omni magazine, comic books and tons of engineering magazines with beautiful photographs of oil rigs and various industrial equipment. It didn't help that my dad was an engineer and my brothers were into science fiction, from authors like Arthur C. Clarke, A.E. Van Voight and Isaac Asimov.

I've had a couple of my own ideas for scifi stories that I've wanted to illustrate and write about but  the pressures of work, a busy social life (busy, mind you, not necessarily interesting ;-) and trying to keep my design skills sharp, have left little time to explore these ideas. Hence the long pause between posts. With that in mind, I'm very thankful to a certain Viktor Kuprin who commissioned some artwork for some stories he's been working on. Viktor's stories are written from a Russian perspective, and it's been a blast trying to come up with concepts to illustrate his ideas.

All of which is a long-winded way of saying: thank you Viktor for not letting me give on my concept art. It's one of the things that keep me sane (the other being my wonderfully patient wife .

On to the artwork. The two concepts to the right are for Viktor's Tsybin "MOD" Series Starships. The painting above is one of two developed from the final concept. Click for a larger version. I developed these concepts a few months ago, but I've been too busy to post these online.
